Astrid Adrienne : Who says there is no charge for the Fascists? It's as if we sell soul to the devil, but perhaps because of Tropa de Elite is minimal internal reflection and feedback (there may be a direct protest, "It's action movie!"), then what is displayed is a celebration of violence.  

 
Jan Pepijn Servaas ‎: I just notice that Tropa de Elte as if to emphasize that violence should be done to deal with crime, which is already rampant and continue to target the younger generation as the nation's next victims, even with the action like a psychopath though. Is it really so? Can a strong institution (as hard as BOPE, though) avoid all the conspiracy?

 
Adriaan Zef : Do you remember the Navy Seals, Band of Brothers, and other movies that focus on a group of soldiers who are trained to feel special, exclusive, and it turns out, they are special, at least in the movies? During her pregnancy, my partner Astrid Adrienne (I dunno know why) really loves to watch such films. I suspect this has something to do with our baby. I'm only guessing it is a boy, and he is declaring his identity and expressing his desire through my partner's behavior. Men in this film focus on a strong sense of brotherhood among soldiers. Well, roughly, such spirit is one of the basic points of this movie.

 Elections in Egypt was held Wednesday, May 23, 2012 marked the end of military rule in Egypt, but is not clear how the transition process from military rule to elected president.
One thing for sure, the military generals do not want the military budget, even the economic empire has been built to be disturbed. I think it will take many years before the military and civilians learn how to work together. The generals do not want to govern, but they still want to maintain national security and has for many years to build their image as a bastion of patriotism and national defense.

Retired generals are also consistently given the top government as cabinet ministers, ambassadors, governors, chief of state or key positions in private sector. As a result, retired military officers were held nearly every position of influence in the state. They occupy government authorities, regulatory agencies, and even the head of the presidential election committee. Military policy is entirely their business.

From 13 candidates in the presidential election (Wednesday and Thursday), two of whom have military backgrounds. It is estimated, there's no clear winner can be expected from the two-day elections. It is likely, the election will continue into  second round in 16 to 17 June 2012.

  Jan Pepijn Servaas :  Regardless of the Egyptian political euphoria, there has been no action or even a meaningful discourse to dismantle the military regime in power since the era of the late Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1952. Tantawi has served as defense minister for 20 years. Egypt's Interior Ministry and the police institutions also have not been affected by the wave of reform.

  Valentino Vie : Hey Jan, dismantling of military rule to civilian state requires a gradual process, because any hasty decision will create a confrontation between the civilian and military. Intersection of the military in Egyptian politics is actually creating incomparable pleasure. Through a special authority, the military has been taking advantage of a variety of businesses, from the military industrial complex to the production of bottled water. Well, to break the chain of business and politics will not be as easy as turning our hands palm, given the situation has been running for decades. Ma chère, je veux vous embrasser.

Jan Pepijn Servaas: Egyptian political figures should be compared with the situation in Turkey, there is a change of military force. Although these changes seem minimal and gradually, but along with its rolling time, these changes will accumulate. And most of the changes is the contribution of ruling party (AKP/The Justice and Development Party). 

Astrid Adrienne : But the Turkey model does not get the an excited response from the generals in Egypt, Jan. In Turkey, a number of generals and senior officers were taken to the court for their role in the effort to overthrow the government in the late 1990s. Because they do not want a similar fate, the generals in Egypt want to find a safe way of court charges. They insist to maintain special privileges in the areas of defense and foreign policy, particularly to maintain the U.S. aid worth U.S. $ 1.3 billion per year. The generals will not willingly "stripped" by civilian politicians who strip the defense budget in parliament. You can see other Egyptian military effort. There is formation of National Security Council (senior ministers), speaker of parliament, and a series of generals. The council may decide to make the military a variety of complicated things, like waging a war till the decision how to overcome the shortage of bread. I think, how quickly the military regime in Egypt will end lies in the strength of unity among Egypt politicians (who often clash with each other, ehhhehe...)

Jan Pepijn Servaas :So, it seems the military in Egypt is still a key player and it'll probably continue so. But I think they also need to develop the capacity to work as political parties inside and outside parliament, regardless of whether the military will "sit around the table" or not.
